As owner of one of the largest construction materials companies in Central Oregon, I am always searching for ways to offer better service to our customers while safeguarding the financial health of the organization. This requires the combined effort of diligent employees. Competitive compensation is essential to retain the most experienced and dedicated personnel, but a continual increase in overhead without a proportionate increase in revenue is a bad idea. I wanted a self-managing compensation structure where employees received incentive pay based on team performance. Teamwork increases accountability and allows everyone to work toward a common goal.
We implemented this Employee Incentive Program in February 2001. During the first three months we were able to reduce our delivery fleet by 10% while pouring the same amount of concrete! Within this same time we were also able ot reduce our staff taking orders by 25%. While using this program, we have been able ot provide better service for our customers with a lesser amount of staffing resources.

Dave Weber of Efficiency Solutions has created an outstanding tool for
improving efficiency. His software provides a simple effective way to
track and reward improved performance. His system transformed our
mediocre On-Time performance from less than 60% to over 86% in the
first month and averaged 92% in the first full year.
No more threatening or begging employees to hurry up or quit wasting
time. We now pay bonuses for meeting on-time and efficiency goals.
Because they get paid extra for being more efficeinct, participants
help us find ways to be more efficient.
Every "So called" efficiency expert I have ever hired in the past has
always been shocked at the incredible amount of overtime we paid.

Within the intial 60 days of the program, we increased our Yards per Man Hour by 10 percent. Truck Utilization improved 15 percent while On-Time Deliveries increased from 60 to 75 percent. In every month but one, we exceeded our performance targets. That particular month became a positive as well, prompting our team to work even smarter to get back on track.
